Data Scientist, Growth

Role

As an early member of Cursor’s data team, you’ll help build an AI data program operating at incredible scale while partnering directly with founders and area leads. You’ll work hands‑on across the entire data stack and at the bleeding edge of AI, turning billions of user–AI interactions into strategy that gets users to “aha” faster and expands their usage.

Sample projects include:

• Run high‑leverage growth experiments: Design and analyze experiments that drive earlier activation, improve conversion, and land users on the right subscription tier-directly influencing strategy with leadership.

• Optimize tier economics: Evaluate the health of each tier, quantify retention and revenue drivers, and surface high‑ROI opportunities for meaningful tier differentiation.

• Up-level our AI harness: Analyze billions of user-LLM interactions to improve how new users select models, write prompts, and experience success in agentic coding workflows, operating at the frontier of AI data science with data from every major model provider.

• You’ve worked directly on Growth, especially product-led or pricing initiatives, and you know how to turn data into decisions that move metrics.

What you'll do...

• Partner with area leads in Growth, Enterprise, Finance, and Product to shape data-informed decisions across the business.

• Define, track, and own metrics like conversion and self-serve revenue that multiple teams and leadership depend on.

• Run experiments end-to-end: design, analyze, and translate into clear product recommendations.

• Build pipelines, dashboards, and analyses that make self-serve insights accessible and trustworthy.

• Establish data culture and foundations as an early member of the data team.

You should apply if...

• You have at least 4+ years of full-time data science experience.

• You’ve been an early data scientist at a hyper-growth startup or research org.

• You know how to be scrappy and ship insights across multiple product areas.

• You’ve worked on Growth, especially product-led or pricing-related growth.

• You’ve worked with subscription businesses, moving customers up tiers or optimizing revenue.

• You’re fluent in SQL and Python, and can write pipelines to unblock yourself.

• You have strong opinions about AB testing, conversion funnels, and growth accounting.

• You can turn complex data into clear insights and stories for engineers, PMs, and execs.

• You care deeply about accuracy and detail.

Bonus points

• Hands-on experience with dbt and analytics engineering.

• Machine learning applied to growth problems: LTV prediction, churn modeling, attribution.

• Experience working on productivity software or AI tooling.

We're Anysphere, the team behind Cursor.

Our mission is to automate coding. The first step in our journey is to build the best tool for professional programmers, using a combination of inventive research, design, and engineering.

We're a group of engineers and scientists who've built beloved products, created large OSS projects, started at-scale businesses, won olympiad medals, and published significant research (e.g. tmm1, ian, luke, phil, federico, aman, sualeh).
